TWO people have been taken to hospital following a house fire. 

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) was called to Main Road in the town's Ferguslie area at around 12.45am this morning following reports of a house on fire. 

Four fire engines were sent to the scene and crews extinguished the blaze.

Two people suffering from slight smoke inhalation were taken to the Royal Alexandra Hospital by ambulance.

Firefighters left the area after 4am this morning after working to ensure the area was safe. 

Main Road has been closed to Thomas Street following the incident. 

A diversion is in place from Paisley towards Johnstone via Canal Street, Maxwellton Street, Maxwellton Road to Thomas Street. 

There is no diversion in place for Johnstone towards Paisley. 

An SFRS spokesperson said: "We were alerted at 12.43am on Friday, January 20 to reports of a dwelling fire in Paisley.

"Operations Control mobilised four appliances to the town's Ferguslie area, where crews worked to extinguish the fire.

"Firefighters left the area at 4am after extinguishing the fire and working to make the area safe.

"Two casualties suffering from slight smoke inhalation were taken to the Royal Alexandra Hospital by paramedics."
