A TEENAGE girl who died in a motorway crash last week has been named by police.
The Glasgow Times previously reported that two vehicles had collided on the M73 northbound near the Gartcosh junction on Saturday, January 28 at around 1.30pm.
A 16-year-old who died as a result of the crash has now been named as Sophie Laing from Cumbernauld.
The incident also saw a 62-year-old man taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital for treatment.
A 42-year-old man was arrested in connection with a road traffic offence and later released pending further enquiries.
Constable Paul Mallon, Lanarkshire Road Policing Unit, said: “Our thoughts remain with Sophie’s family and friends at this difficult time and we ask that their privacy is respected.
“Our enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances and I would urge anyone who may have information which could assist to contact officers.”
