A woman is fighting for her life after she was struck by a car in Glasgow last night with police urgently seeking to confirm her identity.
At around 8.15pm, the female pedestrian was struck by a VW Tiguan car on Elmbank Street at its junction with St Vincent Street.
The woman, who is said to be 35 to 45 years old, was rushed to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital where medical staff described her condition as ‘critical’.
The driver of the car, a 57-year-old man, was uninjured and the road remained closed for several hours to allow crash scene investigators to conduct their enquiries.
Almost 24 hours later, the identity of the woman is still unknown with cops currently attempting to trace her relatives.
Sergeant Chris Hoggans of the Road Policing Department based in Glasgow said: “It is imperative we find out who this woman is so we can contact her family and let them know what has happened.
“She is aged between 35 to 45 years old, has light brown/blond hair and was wearing a light cream-coloured jacket.
“I am appealing to anyone who was in the area at the time to contact us with any information they may have relevant to this investigation, or who can help us identify the pedestrian involved.
“In particular, I would ask members of the public with recording devices to please check their images as they could assist in our investigation.”
Anyone with information is asked to call Police Scotland via 101, quoting incident number 3467 of February 2.
Police have stressed that this is a separate incident from a fatal crash which took place on St Vincent Street at around 7.40pm last night as reported by the Glasgow Times earlier today.
