BRENDAN Fraser says Glasgow was "perfectly cast" as Gotham in the scrapped Batgirl movie.

The DC film, which featured Hollywood stars Brendan Fraser, Michael Keaton, JK Simmons and Leslie Grace, was filmed entirely in Glasgow at the beginning of last year and was scheduled for release in late 2022.

However, we previously reported Warner Bros shelved the production following poor screen-testing results.

Now, Brendan Fraser, who starred as the film's villain Firefly, has spoken about the film's cancellation and praised the directors for their work.

During a recent appearance on The Howard Stern Show, he said: "It was great.

"Adil [El Arbi] and Bilall [Fallah], who did the Bad Boys movie, are really good at blowing s*** up and they love doing it.

"You know, like practical fire effects making stuff go bang, they're all over it, and so Firefly is right in their wheelhouse."

The actor also went on to say he thought Glasgow was the perfect Gotham.

He continued: "Gotham never looked better cast as Glasgow, Scotland

"It's decaying and just gorgeous, and it looks like it's Gotham City.

"It's perfectly cast.

"You believe it no matter where you look at the town if you light it the right way."

Brendan says he has never seen the film, but his friends and colleagues who have all had "really good things to say about it".

He said: "It was screened in a garden variety test screening, it was a director's cut, first cut - it wasn't finished.

"I don't know about you but I don't eat half-baked cake, I don't want to see something that is not ready yet.

"And the sad thing is I don't know if it was judged on the merit, it wasn't shown in the best light it could have been."
