A Glasgow private hire driver has been given a “severe” warning after he was caught speeding at 50mph in a 30 zone.

Ebenezer Kissi was fined following the incident in March 2021 and Police Scotland flagged up the conviction to Glasgow’s licensing committee today.

Councillors decided to grant the driver a three-year extension to his licence, but he was reprimanded after failing to tell the council he had received points on his licence.

A Police Scotland representative said the conviction had shown up during routine checks following Mr Kissi’s application, revealing he was fined £190.

He had been “driving on a road in Glasgow” and was found to “be travelling at 51mph in a 30pmh zone”, the officer said.

She added Mr Kissi was given four points on his licence.

The driver said he hadn’t realised he had moved into a 30mph zone. He added he hadn’t been aware he needed to report the conviction to the council.

Councillor Alex Wilson, the licensing committee chairman, said: “That means you’ve not read the terms and conditions of your licence then.  “When we hand out licences, we don’t just give you a bit of paper and you go away and be a private hire car driver.

“We give you terms and conditions, you read them, adhere to them and if you get points on your licence, you notify the licensing section. It’s important.”
