TWO Glasgow bars are raising a glass in celebration after being named amongst the best in the UK this week.
At a glamourous ceremony in London, The Absent Ear and Lunar found out which spot they had secured on a list of the 50 top cocktail bars for 2023 sponsored by Franklin and Sons.
Moving up one place from last year’s list to number 25 was The Absent Ear in Merchant City which was recognised for its speakeasy-style set up and theatrical drinks.

Group operations manager Alex Riches said: “The Absent Ear is a real passion project for all of us, there’s nothing quite like it in the city or indeed in Scotland. Or anywhere, we hope.
“This national recognition for what we work so hard on means the world, especially at a time when so many bars and businesses are struggling to keep the lights on, literally.
“Jamie Moran the general manager and Liam Grogan who is deservedly Scottish Mixologist of the Year 2023 are at the heart of so much that’s great about The Absent Ear so we’re delighted their hard work, and that of the whole team, has been recognised.”

Meanwhile, newcomer Lunar was delighted to find itself listed at number 49 after only four months in business at its Nithsdale Road home.
A team member said on social media: “We are beyond grateful to be included in the UK Top 50 Cocktail Bars along with our pals at The Absent Ear.
“The biggest shout out to our freaking amazing wee team and the Strathbungo community for all their support.
“We are excited to show you what Lunar can do next.”
