UPDATE: Person dies after being 'hit by train' near Glasgow

UPDATE: The lines have now been reopened

A NUMBER of train services from Glasgow have been cancelled after a person was "hit by a train".

British Transport Police confirmed they were called to the line in Uddingston at around 11.14am following reports of a casualty on the track.

Paramedics attended but the person pronounced dead at the scene.

ScotRail has reported there are cancellations on the following services as a result of the incident between:

  • Glasgow Central and Edinburgh via Shotts
  • Glasgow Central and Edinburgh via Carstairs
  • Glasgow Central and Lanark

 

ScotRail has suggested Glasgow Queen Street to Edinburgh and Glasgow Central low level to Motherwell as alternative routes. 

Ticket acceptance is in place on the following bus routes:

  • Local bus routes with JMB on bus number 41
  • Local bus routes with Lothian Buses between Edinburgh and Curriehill in both direction

A spokesperson for British Transport Police said: "Officers were called to the line in Uddingston at 11.14am following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

"Paramedics also attended however sadly a person has been pronounced dead at the scene.

"The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a report will be prepared for the Procurator Fiscal."

Police Scotland and the Scottish Ambulance Service have been contacted for comment.
