A RENOWNED restaurant group is celebrating the opening of a brand new location this week.
Ashoka restaurants are widely regarded as some of Glasgow's finest Indian eateries with branches across the city and a history that stretches over 50 years.
Last night the Ashoka Group, established by food and drink industry veteran Sanjay Majhu, hosted the grand opening of its latest venture which hopes to bring a signature dose of spice to Cumbernauld Road in Muirhead.
Special guests including North Lanarkshire provost Kenneth Duffy were invited to sample a menu full of aromatic and flavourful dishes from reshmi chicken masala with spinach and garlic to a veggie-friendly chana masala with tomato, ginger and red peppers.
In a charitable twist for the first diners at the new spot, all proceeds from the first two days of trading will be donated to CHASE Africa as well as an appeal to support those affected by the recent earthquakes in Turkey and Syria.
Speaking ahead of the opening, Glasgow curry legend and former manager of Cafe India Raj Bajwe, who works in partnership with Ashoka, said: "We always do our homework when we look for locations and Muirhead is a lovely area but we felt it could really do with a good restaurant.
"We always work with the professionals and never cut corners, the guys have done a 10 out of 10 job.
"Inside the restaurant is absolutely beautiful.
"Head chef Chandan is one of the best chefs in Glasgow and he has come up with beautiful food for Ashoka in Muirhead.
"This man is the business and knows how to put spices together to get the best results.
"In my opinion, this is one of the best Ashokas we have ever opened."
