The Glasgow Times is on the hunt for the best takeaway lunch spot in the city. We are looking for your recommendations across the city centre, North Glasgow, East End, Southside and West End, and will be judging food based on Value for Money, Taste, Atmosphere, Service and Variety.
For the second instalment of our Glasgow's Best Lunch series, I ventured out of the city centre to test out BBQ Wrap Salad on Hyndland Street.
The Partick takeaway first opened in 2019, serving up fresh falafel, shawarma, and of course, barbecue.
Around 1pm the restaurant seemed quiet with only one table occupied by two diners, but a queue formed behind me as I dithered between shawarma and falafel (a constant struggle).
I ordered the chicken shawarma, which was £7. There was an option to make it into a meal by adding chips and a drink for an extra £4 but experience has taught me my lunchtime dining limits.
As our office is in the city I decided to eat in and perched myself on a barstool next to the window.
There was no background music in the restaurant except for the dull hum of the extractor fan, interrupted by great slaps as one of the men working behind the counter made the naan fresh to order.
The wraps all come with your choice of sauce and salad. They had eight sauces to choose from (amazing) and a variety of salad, onion, pickles, jalapenos, cucumbers, and yes - tomatoes.
I went for a classic duo of chilli sauce and garlic mayo and a greedy dose of all the veg.
It took about five minutes from the time I ordered until the time I sat down with my food, making BBQ Wrap Salad a great place to grab a takeaway from if you worked nearby.
I overheard the men behind me order five wraps to takeaway which was quickly followed by the sizzle of fresh falafel hitting the fryer.
The chicken shawarma wrap was huge. The filling distribution was on point and they nailed the sauce level.
I was absolutely blown away by the fresh homemade naan - something that had brought me to the takeaway in the first place.
The only issue that came up was that the paper wrapping had a tendency to stick to the bread, but I do appreciate the sustainability effort.
The spice level was balanced, the chicken was perfectly succulent, and the veg was crisp. Everything tasted fresh.
It took about 15 minutes to devour the wrap and sideswiping the chips was a decision well made, I was stuffed.
The lack of background music would make me reconsider dining in again, but the wrap itself was probably one of the best I've had in the city.

What's the verdict?
Value for Money: 4/5 - For £7, the wrap was massive and I left feeling very full. I know there are wraps out there at a lower price point, but the homemade bread was outstanding and worth it.
Taste: 5/5 - It hit all of the notes: salty, spicy, moist, crunch, fresh ... I'm keen to return and try out their falafel wrap.
Atmosphere: 2/5 - Music can make or break the dine-in vibe, but none whatsoever made me feel a little awkward.
Service: 5/5 - The two gentlemen working at the counter were lovely. Nice, accommodating and happy to answer any menu questions. They offered tea with my wrap and we had a chat afterwards about the restaurant. There is a great and well-deserved pride in their homemade offering.
Variety: 4/5 - The variety is just right for a takeaway that focuses on BBQ, shawarma and falafel. They do have side options as well like houmous and homemade bread. My only wish would be a side salad option instead of fries to make a wrap a meal.
Overall score: 20/25
BBQ Wrap Salad is located at 17 Hyndland St, Partick, Glasgow G11 5QE.
