An 'astronomically busy' Glasgow road is allegedly causing travel chaos since the opening of a new supersized Poundland store.

The store, which is now the largest in Scotland, opened on March 11 in the retail park on Crown Street in the city's Gorbals.

As well as stocking the usual items, the new store also offers a selection of fresh and frozen food, alcohol, soft furnishings and its own make-up gallery.

With the opening of the shop, the area has been said to have become incredibly busy and one driver is finding it difficult to get around the retail park.

They told the Glasgow Times: "It is diabolical getting in and out because it is astronomically busy due to the new Poundland opening.

"I waited for 45 minutes just to get out."

They claimed that the traffic lights on Crown Street are causing a problem for cars.

They added: "It’s just frustrating the amount of time it takes for the lights to change and even then only about four cars, if that, get through and then drivers get so infuriated and angry."

Glasgow City Council confirmed that they were made aware of the issue and would be looking into making changes to the lights to help ease traffic flow.

A spokesperson said: “We are aware of an issue with phasing of the traffic lights at this location and we are currently investigating the cause.

“We will seek to adjust the timings on the signal to keep any congestion to a minimum.

"We will monitor the signals in the meantime to help keep traffic moving.”
