A CHARITY founder has completed his fifth man vs food challenge today for an amazing cause.

Les Hoey MBE defeated a humungous burger and chips dish in a bid to raise money for the Les Hoey MBE Dreammaker Foundation, which arranges meet and greets, concert tickets, and donates iPads to children living with life-threatening illnesses.

The Wishaw man undertook the challenge at Hank Marvin in Uddingston around 12pm and though he struggled, he admitted it was worth it.

Glasgow Times:

He said: "It's been worth it to know that the kids are going to benefit from it.

"The hardest thing was the chips because they were cold at the end. But, the burger was really tasty, I think there were about three or four patties on them. It was lovely.

"I think it was one of my easier challenges, but it was worth it."

The MBE, who had 30 minutes to complete the challenge, beat it with just a minute to spare.

He was cheered on by colleagues of Hank Marvin, bystanders and family and friends.

Glasgow Times:

Hank Marvin owners, Michelle Ford and Tracy Smith, never doubted Les's abilities to beat the challenge.

Michelle said: "I knew he would do it, there was never a doubt in my mind.

"Les did my challenge a number of years back, which was called the Clawhammer.

"He had to eat a two-foot-long hot dog, and he was the only person out of 360 people to complete it.

"So, I knew when we came up with this challenge that he would do it.

"The money is going back into the community and to the kids, and when he's doing it for the kids, he'll always put his heart and soul into everything he does."

Glasgow Times:

Speaking more on hosting the event, Tracy added: "We were a bit nervous this morning, but it's been good.

"It's been a rush; we haven't even had a moment to think.

"The charity has done a lot for children who are ill. It's a charity that helps the community.

"I know two kids that were helped by the charity, so it's a great cause."

Glasgow Times:

Les was inspired to set up the foundation after his daughter was diagnosed with leukaemia in 1992.

In October, The Dreammaker Foundation celebrated its 30th birthday.
