A MAN has been tagged for a vile sex attack onboard a train.

The woman was sexually assaulted by Alexander Higgins, 54, on a train travelling from London Euston to Glasgow Central Station on August 8, 2022.

The victim's husband reported the predator after the attack.

British Transport Police met the service and launched a full investigation, resulting in Higgins' sentencing.

Higgins, of Rhymer Street in Glasgow, pleaded guilty to section three of the Sexual Offences (Scotland) Act 2009.

On March 31, a judge at Glasgow Sherriff Court sentenced Higgins to a sex offences order for five years and he was given an 18-month community payback order and a restriction of liberty order.

He will be managed by an electronic tag for 18 weeks.

BTP Inspector Chris Sutherland said: “Sexual assaults will not be tolerated on the rail network. Everyone has the right to travel and feel safe.

"We will continue to safeguard our communities by creating a hostile environment for offenders like Higgins.

“If you are a victim of, or a witness to, a sexual offence on the railway - I urge you to report it to BTP by texting 61016 or via the Railway Guardian app. We will always take you seriously."
