Detectives are hunting for a grey car following a murder bid.

The incident took place in Greenock on Dorset Road at its junction with Oxford Road at around 11.20pm on Thursday, April 13. 

A 22-year-old man sustained serious injuries to his head and body as a result of the disturbance.

He was taken to hospital where he remains in a serious but stable condition.

It is believed that a number of males were involved in the disturbance.

Detective Inspector Gordon Smith said: "Enquiries are continuing and we are encouraging anyone who may have been in the area at the time to please get in touch.

"We would also like to speak to anyone who may have noticed any suspicious vehicles around these streets, and in particular a grey car which was seen around this time.

"If you have private CCTV, doorbell or dash-cam footage which might have captured anything, we ask that you check this to assist in our enquiries.

"We will be carrying out additional patrols in the area and anyone with any concerns can approach these officers."
