COUNCILLORS rolled up their sleeves to assist with a city centre litter pick this weekend.
Eva Bolander, Philip Braat and Angus Millar joined representatives of the Merchant City and Trongate Community Council (MCTCC) on Saturday afternoon to sweep the streets for rubbish as part of Keep Scotland Beautiful’s campaign to improve neighbourhood environments.
The litter was then separated into recyclable and non-recyclable bags to be collected by the city council's cleansing department.
While the 'spring clean' was a success with a number of bags filled with rubbish gathered from the streets, MCTCC secretary Scott Thornton says it's now up to local residents and visitors to keep up the good work all year round.
He said: “We made a small, temporary contribution to making Glasgow city centre more attractive for residents and visitors.
"It is up to them to take pride in their neighbourhoods throughout the year and put litter where it belongs, in the right bin, recycling as much as possible.”
