A MAN who threatened to shoot a driver with a gun in a carjacking avoided jail on Wednesday.

George Robertson, 34, pounced on Fahid Arshard outside a property in Thornliebank on October 20, 2021.

Glasgow Sheriff Court heard Robertson and co-accused Alexander Williamson, 39, initially approached his vehicle and argued with the driver.

Robertson put his arm through the open window and removed the car keys from the ignition.

He told Mr Arshard: "I'll kill you."

Both men entered the Vauxhall Astra with Robertson shoving Mr Arshard into the passenger seat.

Robertson attempted to start the car without success.

He then stated to the victim: "I've got a gun. I'm going to kill you."

Mr Arshard told the pair to take whatever they wanted before they left the car with the keys, watch and a black rucksack.

Prosecutor Emma Baker said: "Robertson told Mr Arshard to get out and should he look back he would be shot."

A witness contacted the police who later arrested both men.

Officers recovered a rucksack of toiletries but the watch and keys were not found.

Miss Baker stated that the loss was £100.

Both men pleaded guilty to assault and robbery.

Graham Mann, defending Williamson, said: "My client was well known and it's my understanding there was some arrangement with a transaction.

"The victim was on the other side.

"There came a point where there was apprehension that the victim was not going to honour his side of the bargain.

"Money was coming from my client and the co-accused and the goods were being provided from the other end.

"The dynamic shifted at that point and a spontaneous decision was taken.

"It was inappropriate and there was no thought put into what they were doing - it was empty threats."

Sheriff Matthew Jackson KC ordered Robertson to do 100 hours of unpaid work and put him under supervision for 12 months.

Williamson was placed on a structured deferred sentence with the next hearing taking place in June.
