UPDATE: A body has been found in the search for missing David Yates.
Disturbing details surrounding the murder of Marelle Sturrock and her unborn child have been revealed by a top cop.
Sturrock, who was due to give birth around June, was found dead in her Craigton home on Tuesday.
A major police operation is underway in Mugdock Country Park as the force attempts to trace Sturrock's fiance David Yates who is wanted in connection with the horrific killing.
At a press conference on Thursday, April 27, Detective Superintendent Nicola Kilbane revealed that Yates was last seen near the park days before Sturrock's body was found.
He was last seen near to Mugdock Park on Sunday evening shortly after 8pm.
Yates's car, a white Seat Ateca, was found at Mugdock Park on Tuesday.
She said: "That is where our search has been progressing and at this stage, we have no information to suggest that he has left that area.
"Again though, I would like to stress that there is no wider risk to the public."
She would not reveal if Sturrock had shown up for work on Monday or when she was last seen alive.
When asked whether police suspected if Yates was dead or alive, DCS Kilbane responded: "Both of those factors still play very much a factor in this, I can't confirm one way or another what it is, however, they are both working lines of inquiry at this time."
Sturrock and Yates shared a dog whose location during the incident is unknown.
DCS Kilbane said: "I have no idea of what the pet dog's whereabouts were at that time."
She would not confirm if Yates was previously known to police.
Reading from a pre-prepared statement, DCS Kilbane said: “A murder investigation is ongoing in relation to the death of Marelle Sturrock who was 35 years old and stayed at Jura Street in Glasgow.
“Officers attended her home address shortly after 8.40am on Tuesday, April 25, and she was pronounced dead at the scene.
"Marelle was 29 weeks pregnant and I can confirm that sadly her unborn baby did not survive.
“Our thoughts are with Marelle’s family and friends, along with everyone affected by this tragedy. We are providing her family with specialist support at this incredibly difficult time.
“Her partner David Yates is wanted in connection with Marelle’s death. At this time we have no information to suggest anyone else has been involved.
“His vehicle, a white Seat Ateca, was found at Mugdock Country Park on Tuesday and an extensive search has been ongoing in the area since.
“The last confirmed sighting of David was on Sunday evening shortly after 8pm. His subsequent movements are unknown after his vehicle was left at Mugdock Country Park but there is nothing to suggest he has left that area.
"We will keep an open mind on this as we continue to search the area.
“A visible police presence will remain at both Mugdock Country Park and Jura Street as we continue our investigation."
She added: “There is not believed to be any risk to the wider public. However, I would urge anyone with any information or concerns to contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident 0904 of April 25 or speak to any of our officers.
“Finally, and importantly, I would like once again to express our sincere condolences to Marelle’s family and anyone else affected by this tragic incident.”
