To celebrate the upcoming Coronation of King Charles, I headed to the appropriately-named Coronation restaurant to have lunch.

The eatery is located at Gallowgate and has been serving customers since 1939.

I walked in without having decided what I wanted to order yet. Luckily, they have a clear menu with all their options, which made it easy to browse.

In the end, I decided to go for a sausage supper, which cost me £4.25.

The staff were very friendly and even quicker with the service, so I received my food minutes after stepping in.

The atmosphere in the chippy was nice, lots of people were there, enjoying the food and the vibrant retro decorations and furniture created a lovely setting for lunch.

Along with the classing fish supper, sausage supper, chips with curry sauce, gravy and more, the Coronation Restaurant also serves ice cream, burgers, breakfast and baked potatoes.

I made my way back to the office with the beautifully-wrapped package in hand, which smelled amazing.

When I sat down and opened the box, the chips and sausages were still warm and salted to perfection (no vinegar for me, thank you).

They were cooked to perfection and tasted great. I was delighted to see there wasn't too much excess oil dripping down either.

It was a heavier lunch than I am used to but the generous portion was more than enough to fill me up.

The experience was made even more enjoyable as I chatted to the owner, who explained to me that his father took over the eatery in 1953, when Queen Elizabeth was coronated.

This is where the name comes from, he said as he pointed out that this is the business' second Coronation.

He also reminisced about seeing her drive past the venue that year, waving at her.

It was a great way to commemorate this momentous occasion.

What's the verdict?

Value for Money: 4/5 - It is difficult to find a filling lunch under £5 and this is a great option.

Taste: 4/5 -  As far as a chippy goes, you cannot fault this one. It was delicious.

Atmosphere: 3/5 - Very busy during lunchtime but a lovely interior.

Service: 4/5 - The staff was lovely and I was served very quickly. The package was easy to carry and they provided forks.

Variety: 3/5 - They have everything you expect from a chippy. If you come here for that, you will not be disappointed.

Overall score: 18/25
