Youngsters at a primary school in Govan teamed up with a local charity to mark the King’s Coronation with a garden party on Friday.
The school grounds of Ibrox Primary School were decked out in bunting from 10am as the students used the historic occasion to support Right There, a Scottish charity aimed at preventing homelessness.
Children were invited to don their best fancy dress and participate in activities including crown making, seed planting, and obstacle games as well as nibble on festive treats and ice cream.
Fiona Young, headteacher at Ibrox Primary School, said: “We’ve been looking forward to it. With the children, we started planning the celebration a couple of weeks ago.
“The starting point was a chat with the boys and girls at assembly, finding out if they wanted to do anything to mark the occasion.
“Overall, the children did want to do something and then we took notes at assembly of their ideas of what to do and what they would like at the party, and one of the children had suggested raising money for charity.”
The theme of the event was bringing people together, something that goes hand in hand with Right There’s Grow Together appeal which encourages communities to get together and host their own garden parties to help raise money for the charity.
One of the activities organised by Right There was getting the children to write down messages of hope for the future.
Fiona McAuliffe, manager at Right There, was blown away by the touching words and drawings left by the pupils.
She said: “The messages the kids have been writing have been super cute.
“It’s such beautiful messages of love wins or be kind to the environment. Being kind comes across as the main theme.
“It’s so lovely to hear kids that know what it means to be a good citizen for other people in the community and be a good neighbour.
“It’s really beautiful actually, it’s really, really sweet. And they drew a lot of pictures of their families because it’s what hope and what love means to you and that means for most people, family and home, which is what we are all about as a charity as well. It’s been a great wee day.”
