A RETIRED Royal Navy and university engineer was caught drink driving.
Stuart McLaren, 79, went behind the wheel of a blue Ford Focus in Glasgow's Hyndland on August 13, 2021.
The city's Sheriff Court heard police had a separate reason to attend McLaren's home also in the area.
Prosecutor Caitlin O'Hare said: "Officers touched the car and it was warm.
"His door was knocked and McLaren was in where he told police that he was driving.
"Police conducted a breath test which he failed and he was arrested."
McLaren was tested again at a police station and found to have 34 microgrammes of alcohol in 100ml of breath when the legal limit is 22 microgrammes.
The first offender pleaded guilty on Thursday to a single charge of drink driving.
Gregor Jarret, defending, told the court: "He was an engineer for Glasgow University and was in the Royal Navy as an engineer.
"He has been driving for 58 years and he has received no penalty points.
"There is no suggestion he will find himself in these courts again."
Sheriff Valerie Mays fined McLaren £380.
She told him: "You have led a useful life and it is unfortunate you find yourself in court at this age but you have committed this offence."
