A Glasgow pensioner has finally received their overdue Pension Credit, with help from their local MP.
The resident applied for the money in December, as they were struggling financially and needed immediate support during the cost of living crisis.
In late February, they reached out to Alison Thewliss MP for Glasgow Central and soon received the £1542.88 payment which they were owed.
It has also been confirmed that they will get a further £192.86 per week going forward.
The thankful constituent said: “The months of waiting for this payment were really difficult for myself and my family. We were really struggling to put food on the table and afford our bills.
“With the help of Alison Thewliss, I am so happy to have received this money. It has made a massive difference in my life, and I am so thankful for all the help that was given to me during this difficult time.
“If anyone else finds themselves in a similar position to mine, I’d urge them to contact Alison’s office. Her team were great and really supported me to get this money which I was due.”
Alison Thewliss said: “I am so happy that my constituent was able to receive this payment. After approaching our office in February, it was clear they had been waiting to receive this payment for far too long.
“While my team spoke with the DWP, the constituent was patient and really appreciative of the work that was being done.
“I also want to extend a thanks to the DWP, who was also very helpful in this issue and were in regular dialogue with my team about this case.
“It’s vital that older people here in Glasgow Central are claiming everything they are entitled to, especially given the huge cost of-living pressures we are facing. Pension Credit can make a big difference to pensioners on low and fixed incomes, and this extra £301 could a long way to help with these immediate pressures.
“If you receive the State Pension and your total income is less than £201.05 per week then you could get this extra payment, boost your pension, and get help with council tax, rent and energy bills. Please act fast and put in a claim.
“If any Glasgow Central constituents are in need of support, please do not hesitate to contact my office via email: alison.thewliss.mp@parliament.uk, or via phone call: 0141 552 7117.
"My team are always more than happy to help with any constituent issues and urge any constituent to contact my team.”
