A NEW health centre in Glasgow's East End will be one of the greenest of its kind.

The £60 million Parkhead Health Hub will be designed to be eco-friendly and environmentally sustainable with waste management and recycling.

A new report has revealed the project’s carbon impact rating will come in well under the benchmark target set out in the Net Zero Public Sector Buildings Standard.

The facility, which will provide services to children, adult community care groups, mental health services, and help with addictions, is expected to set a standard for others in the UK.

Professor Tom Steele, director of estates and facilities at NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde, said: "Thanks to the support of the Scottish Government and other partners we’ve been able to create a programme of works which is based on circular economy design principles, and which will create a health centre which not only meets the standards for net zero but vastly exceeds them.

"We hope the Parkhead Health Centre can be used as an example of best practice public sector design and construction in the future in the adoption of new and innovative techniques to reduce carbon emissions."
