GLASWEGIAN singer Lulu has paid tribute to Tina Turner revealing a song she wrote for the late star. 

The Dennistoun-born star took to Instagram on Thursday with her tribute after the world learned of the passing of the music legend at 83. 

Lulu, whose real name is Marie Lawrie, teamed up with her songwriter brother Billy Lawrie for the track I Don't Wanna Fight.

It is understood that the song, which also involved songwriter Steve DuBerry, was first offered to Sade before it was passed onto Turner. 

It was recorded in 1993 as part of the soundtrack for the singer's autobiographical film What's Love Got To Do With It which starred Angela Bassett as Tina and Laurence Fishburne as Ike Turner.

Lulu said: "I was shocked and saddened to hear of Tina Turner's passing.

"I cried then I remembered it's her physical form we will miss because her soul, her spirit and her music will live forever.

"I was so humbled when she recorded I Don’t Wanna Fight and said it was the story of her life, of course, it's my story but that's where we connected on a deep level ... no differences, only similarities.

"This is what she did for us all, brought us together in music with love. 

"Farewell beautiful lady, my condolences to her husband Erwin Bach."

I Don't Wanna Fight was one of the star's last worldwide hits before her retirement from recording. She recorded the Bond theme GoldenEye in 1995. 

In recent years, Turner had suffered a number of health issues including cancer, a stroke and kidney failure.

She was propelled into the spotlight alongside husband Ike in the 1960s with songs including Proud Mary and River Deep, Mountain High.

She divorced the abusive Ike in 1978 and went on to find worldwide success as a solo artist in the 1980s with hits including The Best and What's Love Got to Do With It.
