The Glasgow Times is on the hunt for the best takeaway lunch spot in the city. We are looking for your recommendations across the city centre, North Glasgow, East End, Southside and West End, and will be judging food based on Value for Money, Taste, Atmosphere, Service and Variety.
Today, on what has become known as the hottest day of the year (so far), I was feeling hungry and adventurous and decided to venture out for lunch to Glasgow's newest restaurant.
I wrote about Bing Bang Bosh two weeks ago, when its signs first appeared on the Gordon Street unit.
It opened this weekend, so I wasted no time giving it a try.
I walked to the restaurant, enjoying the weather and upon arrival, I inspected the menu conveniently placed on the glass door.
It offers Cups, containing vegetables, a choice of protein, rice and noodles, all of which cost around £9. There are also vegetarian options.
But for those with bigger appetites, there are also plenty of sides to choose from, including kimchi, fries and corndogs.
My eyes landed on the Katsu Cup, which cost £9.50.
After ordering, it only took two short minutes of waiting before a lovely staff member handed me my food.
The eatery has an indoor and outdoor seating area, the latter of which was very tempting in the over-20-degree weather, but ultimately, I decided to walk back to the office.
Unfortunately, the bowl of food did not come with a bag to carry out, but I managed to bring the container back in one piece and the food was still warm.
The meal was amazing but what really struck me was the delicious Katsu curry.
As a lover of the simple but filling dish, I have tried many different versions of it in Glasgow and this one became my new favourite.
The chicken was also delicious and accompanied by a fresh salad, a generous portion of well-cooked rice and thick noodles.
It was a perfect size for a filling lunch.
Bing Bang Bosh is a welcome new addition to the food scene in the city centre and I would recommend a try when you are passing by next time.
What's the verdict?
Value for Money: 3/5 – It was a big, satisfying lunch but for £9.50, it is more of a payday treat than a place I could become a regular.
Taste: 4/5 – Delicious! The only thing I could criticise is that there was too much rice. (I know it's crazy to complain about too much food but the chicken-to-rice ratio left something to be desired.)
Atmosphere: 5/5 – Well-decorated and clean on the inside. It wasn't too packed but busy enough for a good buzz. The sunshine might have helped too.
Service: 5/5 – The staff were lovely and extremely fast! I cannot stress enough how effective they were, despite the unusual spelling of my name.
Variety: 4/5 – They serve exactly what they promise: Korean-style dishes. But you can also find quite a few sides, fries, corndogs and a few other options.
Overall score: 21/25
