A Glasgow DJ artist thought it was a “joke” when she got a call from TRNSMT organisers to play the music festival.
Eva Dodds, better known by her stage name DJ EVA, is an up-and-coming artist in who will now be turning the decks at Scotland’s biggest music festival next weekend.
But getting the message to perform at TRNSMT was something she didn’t even dream of maintaining she thought it was a “bam up” from someone.
Speaking exclusively to Glasgow Times she said: “I thought for a while it was someone bamming me up.
“I can remember getting a message through my Instagram, asking for my e-mail address. When I opened it I just didn’t know what to do.
“I had sent it to my friends saying that this is a bam up and that someone was having me on, it took them to make me believe that I really was about to play at TRNSMT.
“To be able to say that my first ever festival will be my hometown one, and it being Scotland’s biggest, is unreal.
“I am so excited but nervous to be playing but, as soon as I start playing I am sure it will all disappear.”
The 22-year-old, who has a bachelor's Honours degree in Commercial Music, always knew becoming a DJ was for her.
She first tried out a friend's decks when she was a teenager and that was the moment she really fell in love with the industry.
EVA then built up her kit and practised in her bedroom in order to really master the art of DJing.
After performing for a few friends at house parties and building her confidence, the DJ got her first gig at a city bar when a friend asked if she would like to perform there.
And after loving her performance she was asked to come back again before becoming a regular.
It was here she networked with other DJs and gained traction for her talents which led to getting more gigs in places such as SWG3, The Poetry Club and The Berkeley Suite.
The young musician said that her goal for 2023 was to play SWG3 but now having achieved that already with another appearance on the cards, Eva has added TRSNMT to the list in what has been a “crazy” year for her.
Eva added: “The bar I work in is honestly one of the best places for me as they really are brilliant.
“I can mind my first time being super nervous but after I started playing everything vanished and I loved it.
“My original goal was to play SWG3 by the end of the year, never even considered anything like TRSNMT.
“It is honestly surreal and it is the weirdest feeling ever to be sitting talking about it, and seeing my name on the website.”
And without the support of her family, including mum Caron, dad Billy, brother Cameron and auntie Heather, pushing her to achieve her dream, she wouldn’t be where she is today as they all supported the decision she made in pursuing her dream.
She said: “My family have been big for me getting to do what I do as they have always been behind me cheering me on.
“A huge thanks to my mum and dad for being there too and getting me into it as they really did back my DJing.
“And my auntie Heather for always supporting me too.
“I know my mum has already told me that she will be at TRSNMT to see me, as I don’t think some of the other places I have played are her scene.
“However, she said she can’t miss my first festival.
“I will just make sure I don’t see her tearing up as it might set me off.”
