A major new warehouse and distribution centre could be built in Cumbernauld after being conditionally backed by councillors.
TJ Morris, better known as Home Bargains, sought approval from North Lanarkshire Council for the facility, which would be built in Westway Retail Park.
Although the application contravened the local development plan, the council’s planning department still supported it, saying that it presented an opportunity for economic growth and employment without presenting an unacceptable impact on other businesses in the area. Several conditions have been attached to the planning permission to help mitigate any concerns.
The facility will include integral three storey offices, service yards, a gatehouse and parking, with the floor area of the warehouse being 36,200 square metres.
The only objection received in relation to this planning application came from Castlecary Community Council, but their complaints about traffic and potential pollution were not supported by consultees.
The planning committee therefore unanimously approved the application, subject to conditions.
