There are a few handy ways for festival goers to eat and drink for free at TRNSMT this year.

We previously reported that food or drink and liquids, even if unopened, are banned from the festival.

Bags will be searched at the gates and festival organisers have warned that attendees may be refused entry for attempting to bring in prohibited items.

For those concerned about going over budget this weekend, there are a few ways to save on scran at Glasgow Green.

1. Bring a water bottle

Glasgow Times:

While metal and hard plastic water bottles are banned, revellers are encouraged to bring a soft or collapsible water bottle that holds 500ml or less.

As part of TRNSMT's sustainability pledge, free-to-use water points are set up to use around the site.

2. Get a free snack from McDonald's

Glasgow Times:

The McDonald's van is back at TRNSMT this year, handing out free french fries. The fast food favourite will have 2,000 portions of fries to hand out to fans each day.

McDonald's will also be handing out merch on a first come first serve basis, including cowboy hats and patterned party shirts.

3. Free lunch at Julie's Can-teen

Glasgow Times:

Yes, there can be such a thing as a free lunch. This year, celebrity chef Julie Lin is partnering up with Zero Waste Scotland to hand out free dishes made from canned ingredients.

On Saturday, July 8 and Sunday, July 9, free scran will be available from 12pm to 5pm.

Dishes include honey and soy glazed spam bao buns with pineapple and pickled cucumber, Thai-inspired fishcakes with a charred apricot sriracha dip, and saag curry with chickpeas, spinach and paratha.

All dishes are free and available until they run out.
