A MAN was jailed today for raping a young girl when he was a teenager.

Connor Campbell, 28, attacked his victim when she was seven and eight years old.

The offence took place at a location in Thornliebank on various occasions in a short time period between July 2009 and November 2010.

Court papers state the then 14-year-old raped her.

Campbell was also convicted of sexually assaulting a 13-year-old at another location in Thornliebank on January 19, 2020.

The charge says that Campbell exposed himself and carried out a sex act.

Campbell then went on to inappropriately touch the girl.

Judge William Gallacher gave Campbell a seven-year extended sentence at the High Court in Glasgow.

Four years will be spent behind bars and the remaining three will be under supervision.

The first offender was also put on the sex offenders register for an indefinite period.

Judge William Gallacher said: "You engaged in sexual intercourse with a child which is horrific and horrendous.

"I have read more information from her perspective and it shows the impact this has had on her and will continue to have."

Sarah Livingstone, defending, earlier told the sentencing: "There is general acceptance [by Campbell] of the trauma of people who are sexually abused despite him continuing to deny the offences."
