A hospital volunteer has collected an award in recognition for the work he has done for patients in a North Lanarkshire hospital.
Robert Bogan, who volunteered at the University Hospital Wishaw, has won the NHS Lanarkshire Staff Award for his work helping patients within the hospital.
Robert, who jointly won in the volunteer category also, has worked between the emergency department and as a front-of-house volunteer.

Speaking of his win announced at the NHS Lanarkshire Staff Awards, Robert said that although he was unfortunately unable to attend the event in person due to a pre-booked vacation, he was still deeply honoured to win.
Robert said: “I started volunteering with the NHS in April last year. Initially working in the emergency department, then later transferred to be a patient's direction guide within the level one concourse.
“I've always had a close affinity with the NHS, which has certainly been embellished by witnessing the care and dedication of many fine people within the profession first-hand.
“My role can be quite rewarding when I can successfully direct a high volume of patients to where they need to be.
“Hospital visits can be a stressful experience for many patients. Aside from their own health concerns, they need to negotiate the obstacle of car parking before meeting the challenge of understanding the hospital layout and signage.
“It would be true to say there have been a few difficult moments when some patients without letters relay their medical symptoms or specific medic they have been assigned to see.
"On these occasions, I'm often bailed out by the ever-helpful, Anne, Lorna and Harry in spiritual care and wellbeing.”
In his role in the emergency department, Robert talked to vulnerable patients and their families, helped staff and got patients refreshments as and when required.
In his ‘front of house’ role, he now assists patients, members of the public and staff around the hospital.
Robert added: “I was more than a little surprised to learn that I had been nominated and equally so to share the award with Lorna, a more deserving colleague.
“Rather than receive any personal accolade, I’d prefer to dedicate the decoration to the NHS staff who provided outstanding care to my late wife Sheena during her cancer treatment between 2018 and 2021.
“We are most fortunate to have a healthcare system in this country with so many committed and compassionate staff. May it long continue to serve us for a further 75 years and beyond.”
