A vacant Glasgow retail unit could be transformed into an entertainment venue.

Plans were submitted to the council to open a Roxy Ball Room at 64 Argyle Street.

The popular "booze and ball games" venue has 17 sites across the UK, including in Leeds, Manchester, Liverpool, Birmingham, Nottingham, Sheffield, Edinburgh, Bristol, Cardiff and Leicester.

They serve food and drinks, as well as provide opportunities to play games such as beer pong, pool, karaoke, basketball, air hockey and more.

Now, the company behind the sites is bidding on the former JJB Sports building as their next venture.

According to documents, it "has been vacant for several years and it is no longer desirable as a retail unit".

If successful, the operation would create 25 jobs in the area and would be open between 11am and 1.30am from Sunday to Wednesday, between 11am and 2.30am on Thursdays and between 11am and 3.30am from Friday to Saturday.

Applicant Roxy Leisure Ltd is hoping to take over the 1660 sq m property and create a "place full to the brim with games but never losing that great bar atmosphere that we pride ourselves on".

The application said the new business would "enhance the high street and provide a more active floor space in an already vibrant location".

The bid is currently pending with Glasgow City Council and a decision is expected to be made by Friday, September 29.

The last day for comments is Monday, September 4.
