Child killer Aaron Campbell has had a move to an adult prison halted after bosses realised a relative of his victim was an inmate there.

The 21-year-old has been in Polmont Young Offenders Institution since he was found guilty of raping and murdering six-year-old Alesha MacPhail in 2018.

He was supposed to be transferred to Glenochil but the Scottish Sun reports that plans have been put on hold after prison officers were made aware that a family member of Alesha was serving a sentence there.

This was deemed a risk to Campbell's safety.

An insider told the paper: “He was all set to be moved to Glenochil, but on doing some final checks it was picked up that a member of Alesha’s family is in there.

“It wouldn’t be safe to have them in the same nick.

“Bosses had to make a decision and put a stop to any move just now.”

Campbell will now stay at Polmont until a suitable prison for him has been identified.

The source added: “Who knows how long that will take.

“In the meantime, he still visits the gym daily in his bid to toughen up because he knows he will not get a warm welcome wherever he goes.”
