Plans are underway to build flats and student accommodation on a vacant site in Glasgow.
Vita Group is proposing to transform the site at 20 India Street in the city centre into a high-quality mixed-use development consisting of student homes and affordable housing.
The student offering will be delivered under Vita Group’s student brand Vita Student which already has a residence in the city's West End.
A retail or leisure unit is also planned to be added to the space.
Local residents and those who are interested in the development are invited to attend a public consultation event on Wednesday, September 20 at The Renfield Training and Conference Centre from 2pm to 7pm.
Max Bielby, Chief Operating Officer for Vita Group said: “We’re excited to start the consultation process for India Street, sharing our vision for what promises to be a vibrant new community.
"Glasgow’s undersupply of student accommodation and affordable homes continues to impact on Glasgow’s rental market, reducing available homes across the city.
"Our plans for India Street will help to alleviate some of those pressures, with much-needed student accommodation as well as more affordable homes.
"We hope that by building upon our investment into the city, we’ll be able to create a new, thriving community which complements the neighbourhood and the city.”
We reported in September 2022 that the 1.28-acre plot was put on the market.
The area was previously home to an office building, used by Strathclyde Regional Council and later Glasgow City Council, which was demolished in 2015.
Its neighbours include Scottish Power’s headquarters, Starwood Capital’s St Vincent Plaza development and Moda Living’s build-to-rent development on the site of the former Strathclyde Police headquarters.
