A PLUSH restaurant has been deliberately set alight for the second time in weeks.

Emergency services including fire crews and cops rushed to Italian restaurant Da Luciano in Bothwell in the early hours of Monday morning after a fire engulfed the venue.

There are no reports of injuries but officers believe it to be a wilful act.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 12.25am on Monday, August 28, 2023, police were called to the Silverwells Crescent area of Bothwell, following a report of a fire at a premises.

"There were no reported injuries and the fire is being treated as wilful.

"Emergency services remain at the scene and enquiries remain ongoing."

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "We were alerted at 12.06am on Monday, August 28 to reports of a building fire on Silverwells Cresent, Bothwell in Glasgow.

“Operations Control immediately mobilised two appliances to the scene and on arrival firefighters found the first floor of a one-storey detached restaurant block well alight.

“Additional resources were mobilised including two further appliances and crews remain on the scene as they dampen down hot spots to make the area safe.

"No casualties were reported.”

South Lanarkshire Council issued a statement warning that traffic could still be affected on Monday due to the incident.

A spokesperson said: "Following an incident at Da Luciano's in Silverwell Crescent in Bothwell last night, traffic congestion is expected around the area this morning."

It comes after we reported that the same restaurant had been targeted last month.

999 crews were called to a blaze at Da Luciano in the early hours of July 18 and the restaurant had been forced to close until further notice.

There were no reported injuries at the time but, as with this attack, officers were treating the act as deliberate.
