A GARDENER fractured a colleague’s eye socket amid a money dispute.

Liam McGarvie, 29, attacked Cameron Morrison in Glasgow’s Castlemilk on July 22, 2021.

The pair had a chance meeting at a job three months after the argument over cash.

McGarvie got Mr Morrison in a headlock and punched him once to the eye.

The victim was found to have suffered a bloody nose as well as the eye injury.

McGarvie pleaded guilty on Tuesday at Glasgow Sheriff Court to the assault to Mr Morrison’s severe injury.

The court heard the two men were landscape gardeners and work colleagues.

Prosecutor Ryan Watson said: “Around three months before the incident, the victim and McGarvie had a dispute over money.

“This was referred to the management of the landscape gardening company they work for.”

On the day of the incident, Mr Morrison was working on another job in Cambuslang.

He was then requested to attend another in Glasgow’s Castlemilk unbeknownst to him that McGarvie was also working there.

Mr Watson said: “McGarvie walked towards him, grabbed him and placed him in a headlock.

“Mr Morrison was thereafter punched to the left eye.”

A colleague then took Mr Morrison to a works van and was noted to have a badly swollen eye and a bloody nose.

He was treated at hospital and found to have sustained a fractured eye socket.

McGarvie could not be traced meantime.

Ross Brown, defending, told the court: “It is a matter of deep regret. He has a record but nothing for violence.

“This could have been a contained dispute between work colleagues but this has led to an injury.

“He did not take pleasure in hearing of the injury and is deeply regretful for that.”

Sheriff Shona Gilroy deferred sentence pending background reports until next month and McGarvie, of the city's Parkhead, was granted bail meantime.
