A Lanarkshire-wide martial arts school has requested to lease premises in Uddingston for the next 20 years.
Rival School of Martial Arts has submitted a community asset transfer request to lease the David Milne Centre on Old Mill Road in Uddingston. The school proposes to use the land for the operation of a martial arts club and a community centre.
Rival School of Martial Arts already has three full time locations across Lanarkshire, including Rivals Gym in Wishaw, Rivals Gym in East Kilbride and Rivals Gym in Airdrie.
In a statement attached to its request for the community asset transfer, Rival School of Martial Arts outlined the community benefits of taking over the David Milne Centre.
It wrote: "The approval of our community request for the establishment of the Rivals School of Martial Arts community space will yield a multitude of benefits that positively impact our local community and beyond."
It added: "The approval of our request for the community space will result in a harmonious blend of physical health, personal development, and community connectivity. By focusing on holistic well-being and inclusivity, the proposal aligns with the values of a thriving and vibrant community."
Rivals School of Martial Arts work with various organisations and communities, such as Active schools, local authorities, local school partnerships, Street League, Routes to Work, looked after children, children with autism, children and families who are deprived and from disadvantaged backgrounds, the fire service, local police and other local charities.
The school aims to promote community participation in healthy sport and recreation by the provision of premises and facilities for playing and participating in martial arts and associated health activities.
There’s been no consultation for the plans as of yet and the deadline for determining the application is March 17.
