A Glasgow school's garden received a much-needed transformation.

East Park School, North Glasgow, was renovated as part of the Asda Litter Pick initiative, which launched earlier this year.

More than £9,000 was invested into making the school garden, after a nomination by Asda Maryhill community champion Ryan Rooney.

East Park, which celebrates its 150th birthday this year, is a residential school supporting children and young people with complex learning difficulties and additional disabilities.

Alongside his Maryhill store colleagues, community champion Ryan has volunteered on a weekly basis since May to help completely transform the garden space.

Karen Ferguson, housing manager, East Park School said:  “The support from Asda, as well as the local colleagues like Ryan, has helped us to continue our important work with children and young people who have complex additional support needs such as autism, learning disabilities and physical and sensory impairments.

“We have accommodation here at the school which is often oversubscribed. Every young person who attends has different special needs. We have young people ranging from 10 years of age up to young adults.

“Our work focuses on seeking innovative approaches that enable each young person to reach their maximum potential. With the new garden, our children and young people can play and express themselves freely in a safe and secure environment. It means the absolute world to us!”
