A thug whose victim broke her back trying to escape his violent clutches has been jailed for seven years.

Kevin Hamilton subjected the woman to a horror ordeal which also included him refusing to allow her to leave his home.

The 35-year-old struck having left another female traumatised and scarred for life.

Hamilton was on Wednesday sentenced at the High Court in Glasgow.

He was earlier convicted of the abduction and assault of the latter woman to her severe injury and danger of her life over a number of days in April and May 2021 at the property in Lennoxtown.

Hamilton was also guilty of assaulting the earlier victim to her permanent disfigurement between June 2012 and January 2015 at addresses in Cumbernauld.

He was acquitted of raping this woman.

The court was told that Hamilton had already served a string of jail-terms having convictions for violence and weapons.

In connection with the second victim, Judge Andrew Cubie told Hamilton: "This involved a degree of control against a young vulnerable woman, who you seemed to have opportunistically taken into your home.

"You reduced her ability to come and go as she pleased.

"You were violent towards her and this culminated in her attempting to escape from a first floor window, which resulted in her breaking her back."

The judge said Hamilton had tried to wield "power and influence" over the other woman which often saw him "do what he wanted".

He added: "Your conduct left her with a permanent scar on her face which is still a feature that reminds her every day what she was subjected to.

"Although she has made good progress, she still suffers from the result of the behaviour that you perpetrated."

Hamilton will also be monitored for two years on his release.
