Services arriving and departing Glasgow Central Station are experiencing major disruption today.

Scotrail took to X, previously known as Twitter, to inform passengers that they are currently dealing with a 'points failure in the Glasgow Central area'.

They wrote: "We're currently dealing with a points failure in the Glasgow Central area which is causing disruption to all services arriving and departing Glasgow Central.

"Staff are on site investigating the fault."

They later confirmed that engineers were now also on-site to investigate the matter.

Passengers seemed disgruntled with the news with one person commenting: "Can't lie, communication on this train hasn't happened, only knew about this from a Twitter (X) notification."

While another added: "Scotfail."

Phil Campbell, ScotRail Customer Operations Director, said: “We’re sorry to customers who are experiencing disruption to their journey due to a points failure in the Glasgow Central area.

“Customers should check our website, app, and social media feeds for the latest updates on when services will be back to normal.”

Network Rail has said that a new piston is going to be required to solve the problem.

They wrote: "We're currently dealing with a points failure at Glasgow Central which is causing significant disruption to services entering/leaving the station.

"Our engineers report back that a new piston is required, and that a line blockage is needed to allow them to install this safely."
