A road was cordoned off by police for over 24 hours following a 'suspicious' death at the scene.

We previously reported that Farmeloan Road and Victoria Street in Rutherglen were closed due to a police incident.

This was later revealed to be an alleged disturbance and a 38-year-old man, Stuart McGeachie, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Glasgow Times:

The area was closed since around 7pm on Tuesday for detectives to carry out investigations into the incident.

As of 9pm on Wednesday, the roads have reopened.

We previously told that Stuart's family said they are "devastated" by his death in a statement released through Police Scotland.

They said: "We are devastated at the loss of Stuart, he was a much-loved son, father and brother who will be greatly missed.

"As a family, we ask for privacy at this time in order that we can process events and support each other."

Multiple reports claim Stuart was stabbed, but the force has not confirmed this.

Investigations are continuing and officers are urging any witnesses to get in touch.

Glasgow Times:

Detective Chief Inspector John Morrison said: "Our thoughts are with the family and friends of Stuart at this very difficult time.

"Our enquiries have so far revealed this incident involved a number of people, that we believe are known to each other.

"Our enquiries are ongoing. We will have a continued police presence in the area and anyone with any concerns can approach these officers.

"It is vital we find out more about what has happened as soon as we can and I would urge anyone with information to contact us as soon as possible.

"I am appealing to the community to get in touch with us with any information they have. I would ask anyone who witnessed the incident or who may have footage including dash cam or mobile phone footage to contact us.

"No matter how insignificant it might seem, please pass it on to officers."

Anyone with information is asked to contact police via 101, quoting incident number 3201 of October 24.

Alternatively, Crimestoppers can be contacted anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Meanwhile, a 39-year-old man is due to appear in court today charged in connection with possessing an offensive weapon.
