A man has been snared following a first-of-its-kind investigation into a robbery.
John-Ross Rennie was involved in an incident involving a high-value theft of cryptocurrency at an address in Blantyre in March 2020.
A quantity of Bitcoin, valued at around $200,000, was found to have been forcibly transferred into an account linked to the 28-year-old.
A car and other valuable items were also taken.
While Rennie was not present during the robbery, it was established that he had benefitted from it.
Following a trial at Glasgow High Court which concluded on Tuesday, he was found guilty of reset.
He will be sentenced at a later date.
Detective Inspector Craig Potter, of Police Scotland’s Cyber Investigations unit, said: “This was a complex investigation and the first robbery in Scotland to involve tracing the movements of stolen cryptocurrency.
“Specialist cybercrime officers were able to follow the movement of funds to show he had been responsible for the Bitcoin wallet which received the stolen funds.
“This is a complex and constantly evolving technology.
"This conviction demonstrates Police Scotland's capability and commitment to tackling criminality involving the digital space and bringing criminals operating in this world to justice.”
