Officers in Glasgow and North Lanarkshire will take part in a "live play exercise" today as part of training.
Police Scotland has announced the event on social media and has confirmed that if residents see a large armed 999 presence, it is standard procedure and not an emergency.
They will take place in Pollokshaws and the Gorbals, as well as in Airdrie and Cumbernauld.
