Councillors have approved the expansion of a former toilet block in Milngavie to create a new restaurant.
The building, at 18 Mugdock Road, is currently used as a gym but East Dunbartonshire Council’s planning board has approved plans to add a two storey extension which will house a cafe/restaurant on the ground floor with a new gym upstairs.
Negotiations between the council and the applicant resulted in a number of alterations to the plan as originally submitted, including changes to the design and also the layout in order to ensure pedestrian routes are retained.
A total of five objections to the plans were received from residents, with another person writing in to express their support for the proposals.
Planning officers recommended approving the application subject to various conditions, on the grounds that it would not adversely affect the surrounding area and was in keeping with local policies, and the planning board agreed unanimously with this recommendation.
