Locals are being urged to support small businesses during the festive season.
North Lanarkshire Provost Kenneth Duffy recently visited a bakery and flower shop as part of a campaign to promote local businesses in favour of big-brand high street choices this Christmas.
Lucky Orchid Flowers in Coatbridge was recently named flower shop of the year at the Scottish Business Awards, while Bakers Oven is a cafe which has proudly served the Newarthill community for over 50 years.
Provost Duffy said: “Small businesses across North Lanarkshire do so much to support and enhance the character of our area and I’d like to encourage our residents to give their backing to our high streets throughout the festive season and think about shopping locally for their gifts."
It comes as December 2 marks Small Business Saturday, a campaign that aims to help small businesses reach their full potential during the peak shopping season.
Many retailers take part by hosting events, offering promotions, and working with other businesses.
Despite being known as one day, it is hoped that the grassroots event will have a lasting impact on small businesses.
