A Glasgow woman whose relative had a cancer scare has helped raise over £3,000 through an East End choir.

Anne Kirkwood and her friends in the Shettleston Community Choir held a lady's lunch in the Shettleston New Church to raise money for the Beatson Cancer Charity.

Around 160 people including family, friends and the community in the East End helped the choir smash the record to raise £3,288,11.

Glasgow Times:

The choir was looking to "give back" to the charity for the work that they do with people and their families who are going through tough times.

Having started in 2018, the group have grown from 10 to 50 people on the register with the choir gathering every Thursday at Shettleston New Church.

Anne, from Springhill, was eager to take part after a relative had a cancer scare and wanted a way of thanking them for the help that they had given.

The 70-year-old said: "The choir is a good group of people and we all enjoy each other's company.

"The lady's lunch was an idea that the group came up with to give back to Beatson because we wanted to try and help do our part.

"I know that the work they do is amazing and so do everyone else in the group. Everyone knows someone who is affected by cancer.

"I am just delighted to have raised what we did because it was over and above what we were aiming for.

"It is definitely something we will do again!"
