GBX star George Bowie has paired with a country music star to create a new Christmas song.
The radio presenter is working with Kevin McGuire and songwriter John McLaughlin on Raise Them Up For Christmas.
It was written in an afternoon at George's home in Glasgow's West End, and the project has left him keen to keep working together on more songs.
He said: “John is a legendary writer. Name anyone from the UK in the last 25 years and he's probably worked with them. He and Kevin write a lot together and I'd remixed a song he did for Rod Stewart last year so we thought let's do a few tracks for ourselves.
“The first time I heard the song back it was emotional because I felt 'I was really part of that'. I wasn't just sitting about making up the numbers."
Kevin added: “Geo hit up the group chat a couple of months ago with the idea to make our own original Christmas tune, and it just went from there.
"It was so funny because one of my pals had said to me a few times in the weeks before it came in that we should do something like that together.
“Geo had some chords in his head, and myself and John both had some ideas too so collectively it really just flowed.”
The team were inspired to create a 'modern festive anthem', and three versions have been released to suit all music tastes.
While George has his GBX version, Kevin has a country version and there is a daytime radio pop version, the GEM mix, by George’s wife Ellene and Marc Anderson.
George said: “They were listening to some of the classics like Last Xmas, Eurythmics’ Winter Wonderland and Queen’s Xmas song with the big synth sound and decided to go down that route.
“I love it. If I'm being honest I think their GEM mix is my favourite of the three, but don't tell them that because I'll never hear the end of it.”
Raise Them Up For Christmas by George Bowie and Kevin McGuire is out now on all streaming platforms.
