A cultural centre near Glasgow is launching an exciting new monthly event in 2024.
Bellshill Cultural Centre is to create a community group focusing on shared memories and reminiscing on days gone by.
Aptly titled ‘Take a Trip Doon Memory Lane’, the sessions will start at the centre on Tuesday January 9 from 2 to 3pm and continue on the first Tuesday of every month thereafter.
Free of charge and open to everyone, the group provides the opportunity for people to share their stories and enjoy each other’s company over a cup of tea and a slice of cake.
Sessions will focus on different aspects of working life and leisure, including days out, holidays and shopping.
The project is part of the Scotland-wide Memories Scotland project, which promotes the benefits of reminiscing for our mental well-being.
While the groups are dementia-friendly, both young and old are welcome.
Mark Stafford, a library assistant with North Lanarkshire Council, said: "We are looking forward to welcoming new attendees to the memory group.
"We have some fascinating materials prepared for these sessions, including lots of photographs of times past that are sure to get people chatting.
"We’re lucky to have so much interesting local history. We’re think we have something for everyone, whether they have been living here 50 years or 50 days."
Russell Brown, the council's community libraries manager, added: "I’m delighted that this new memory group is being created and can’t wait to see how it develops.
"Our libraries are warm, welcoming spaces so we’re pleased to be able to offer this new activity for people to get involved with."
