A new campaign has been launched encouraging youngsters to report crime over the festive period.
Fearless – the youth programme of charity Crimestoppers – is running a series of crime prevention messages on social media to raise awareness of how young people can speak up if they’re concerned that they might be being harmed or exploited.
Regardless of the day or time - even Christmas Day - young people can go to Fearless.org and complete an online form with information or suspicions about anyone involved in crime in their area.
From there, one of the charity’s highly trained staff in their UK contact centre processes what is sent to Fearles.org and passes it on to Police Scotland – first making sure that no one could ever identify who gave that information.
Lyndsay McDade, National Youth Projects Coordinator for Crimestoppers Scotland, said: “This time of year can be full of fun and excitement, but for some people it can be a time of added pressures and concerns. That’s why it’s so important for young people to look out for each other and speak up anonymously.
“At Fearless.org, we can’t trace your IP addresses or any contact details that could identify you. Nobody will ever know the information came from you, but it could help to make a real difference.
“For adults who look after young people, please set aside a few minutes over the holidays to explain to them what our charity does – perhaps sit down and look at our website Fearless.org together. It could be life-saving.”
