A thug who tried to kill a police officer in a frenzied knife attack has been jailed for 12 years.
Scott McGregor wildly swung the blade at PC Thomas Blair at the flat in Glasgow's Lambhill on October 20 2022.
The constable and colleagues used pepper spray as well as a police baton in a desperate bid to stop the crazed 34-year-old.
PC Blair luckily only suffered a minor hand injury before the officers bravely managed to tackle him to the ground and slap cuffs on him.
Serial criminal McGregor had been due to stand trial, but instead pleaded guilty to the attempted murder of PC Blair.
He also admitted at the High Court in Glasgow to assaulting the two other officers - one of whom has since quit the force following her ordeal.
Judge Douglas Brown on Wednesday told McGregor he had been "wickedly reckless" and had been "completely indifferent" if PC Blair lived or died that night.
McGregor will also be supervised for four years on his release.
Police had been called after it emerged McGregor's partner wanted him out of their flat.
PCs Blair, Daniel Hilditch and Magda Hawkins turned up and initially spotted the couple on the balcony.
The officers got into the flat with PC Blair ahead of his colleagues.
Prosecutor David Dickson then explained: "Once they entered the hall, the front door closed and McGregor exited the bathroom with a knife in his right hand."
McGregor first lunged at PC Hawkins to try and strike her.
Mr Dickson said: "PC Blair activated his emergency assistance button to alert other officers to attend.
"He also sprayed pepper spray into McGregor's eyes. McGregor did not desist and continued towards the officers."
PC Hawkins used her baton to try and keep the thug away, but the court heard this was "to no avail". McGregor also swiped at PC Hilditch.
However, PC Blair was mainly the "subject of McGregor's ire".
Mr Dickson: "He repeatedly attempted to strike him on the body and accepts now he was wickedly reckless in doing that."
The officer ended up being cut on the hand as he tried to shield himself.
The blade used was a large kitchen knife.
PCs Hilditch and Hawkins fortunately escaped injury - but the latter was left traumatised by what occurred and has since resigned from Police Scotland.
The court was told he was on four bail orders at the time facing a number of charges including earlier assaults on police.
McGregor had previous convictions for violence, offensive weapons and disorder. He was jailed for 18 months in November 2022.
Judge Brown said the jail-term would have been 13 years, but for the late guilty plea.
He told McGregor: "Police officers, because of the nature of their duties, often have to go into situations where they are at risk of violence.
"The courts have to do what they can to protect them by imposing sentences that make it clear an assault of an officer is completely unacceptable.
"You accepted that you acted with such wicked recklessness by attacking PC Blair with a knife.
"The attack was murderous meaning you were completely indifferent if it resulted in his death."
The judge imposed concurrent 43-month sentences for the assault of the other two officers.
