A woman was hit by a bus sparking a massive emergency response on a Glasgow road.

999 crews including cops and ambulances raced to Dumbarton Road in the city's West End on Wednesday evening.

A large section of the road was taped off from around 6.15pm and the woman was taken to hospital to be treated for her injuries.

The force confirmed that an investigation is underway.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 6.15pm on Wednesday, January 24, police were called to a report of a woman struck by a bus on Dumbarton Road, Whiteinch.

“Police and ambulance attended and she was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital for treatment.

“Enquiries are continuing.”

A Scottish Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We received a call at 6.07pm on Wednesday to attend an incident on Dumbarton Road in Glasgow.

"We dispatched one ambulance, a paramedic response unit and a critical care paramedic to the scene.

"We transported one female patient to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.”

A First Bus spokesperson said: "We can confirm an incident took place on Dumbarton Road in Whiteinch last night shortly after 6pm involving one of our vehicles and a pedestrian.

“Emergency services were called to the scene immediately and we are continuing to work closely with them.

“The thoughts of everyone at First Bus are with all those involved in the incident.”
