For my birthday this year, I decided to find out which shops in Glasgow give you a free birthday gift.

Because what better way to celebrate than gathering some freebies from your favourite places?

Before I began my journey, I did my research and visited all these places in the city centre to tell you how exactly you can enjoy these promotions.

What can I get for free on my birthday in Glasgow?

Let's start with the most obvious item: cake. This was the most common freebie I came across but I am very much a sweet tooth so I was delighted.

Also, I listed here any other baked goods which would satisfy your craving.

1. Greggs

Everyone's favourite bakery will treat you to a free cake on your special day, if you download their app and sign up.

As a bonus, if it's your first time creating an account you will also receive a free hot drink to go with your dessert. I recommend the jammy heart biscuit.

2. Lidl

Lidl lovers rejoice! Through your Lidl Plus app, you are entitled to a free doughnut on your birthday, simply scan it at checkout.

I got really lucky and bagged a heart-shaped Valentine's Day confectionery. It was delicious.

3. Krispy Kreme

For a free birthday doughnut, - you can choose any one of them - all you have to do is download their app and sign up.

You will get a voucher which you need to activate before your purchase.

I went to their stand at Buchanan Galleries and it was a very quick and easy way to get a free Lotus Biscoff treat.

4. Costa

The choices here are endless! The coffee giant will give you a free cake, muffin, cookie, pastry or tart from behind their counter.

You will need to download their app and sign up but it's worth the hassle.

Personally, the blueberry muffin I got here was my favourite out of all the items.

5. Caffe Nero 

I ended up not receiving this one because the email didn't come through but the lovely staff at the St Enoch shop did confirm you will get a free cake on your birthday.

Hopefully, you will have better luck than I did with the promotional email. Just sign up via their app.

6. Hotel Chocolat

Technically, this wasn't free but you get a £5 reward on your birthday, which you can spend in-store.

I got lucky and found strawberry cheesecake eggs, from their Easter collection, which were 45p with the promotion.

Next up, these meals are perfect if you are out for lunch to celebrate with friends and family.

7. Chopstix

If you like Asian food, why not get some for free? Located on Sauchiehall Street, the restaurant will give you a free small box. You just need to subscribe to their newsletter.

I went with a simple sweet-and-sour chicken and noodles but the choice is yours!

8. Barburrito

Normally, I don't eat here but when I saw their birthday deal, I had to get their app for a free burrito.

Yes, an entire burrito!

After you show them your ID, you have your choice of fillings for a delicious meal.

9. Burger King

Unfortunately, this also fell through for me due to a technological issue but you can get a free Whopper or Vegan Whopper if you have their app!
