Seven things to do this weekend in Glasgow

Disney on Ice

There is fun for all the family at The OVO Hydro this weekend as Disney on Ice presents its newest show Dream Big.

Famous Disney stars, old and new, will be bringing their stories to life upon the ice as they sing, dance and skate in an event that is promised to be “magical” and “breath-taking”. This weekend is the only time the show comes to Scotland, and it is only visiting five cities across the UK.

With a total of seven shows between Thursday and Sunday, be sure to grab your tickets while still available.

Calendar Girls The Musical 

The Kings Theatre will host Calendar Girls The Musical this weekend.

The play follows the extraordinary journey a group of ordinary Yorkshire women are taken on after the death of a much-loved husband.

In the face of this tragedy the ladies set out to raise money for charity however their unusual plan is to do so through creating a nude calendar.

This new production of the award winning play originally written by Gary Barlow and Tim Firth is playing on Friday evening as well as twice Saturday.

Tickets are still available for all three shows.

A Play A Pie and A Pint 

You can sit back and relax with a A Play, A Pie and A Pint this weekend as a new production from Scottish writer Liam Moffat is staged.

A drink and a pie are included in the ticket price, making it the perfect lunchtime stop.

The play titled Jack is “a dark comic monologue that explores the struggles of navigating a life of love, loss and finding hope. All with the help of man’s best friend”.

Taking place at Òran Mór in the West End of Glasgow at 1pm, it is a great way to kick off a Friday or Saturday afternoon.

Tickets are available for both shows and can be bought online or on the door.

Vida

If you fancy a mixture of 90s Britpop and 60s psychedelia, then look no further than King Tuts Wah Wah Hut this Friday.

Vida, originally from Alloa, will be swaggering onto the same stage that has previously hosted their idols Oasis and The Verve.

Support will be provided by both ‘ECKØ’ and Glasgow rock outfit And The Bandages making it an evening that’s not to be missed if you are interested in Scotland’s emerging music scene.

Bill Bailey – Thoughtifier 

Bill Bailey is bringing his brand-new show to the SEC Armadillo this Sunday.

Billed as “A magical, musical mystery tour of the human mind”, the much-loved comedian is sure to bring a unique mix of jokes, music and story to the stage.

Tickets are limited but still available.

Sam Ainsley 

Glasgow based artist Sam Ainsley presents her first major exhibition in the city for over 30 years.

The collection of art showcasing a variety of styles “is a deeply personal culmination of recent work that will make a powerful statement about who Ainsley is”.

Presenting “acrylic paintings on canvas, framed prints, shaped acrylic canvas works and a wall drawing” it is certain that something will catch your eye.

Titled ‘Wednesday is Cobalt blue, Friday is Cadmium red’ the exhibition is on show at the Gallery of Modern Art and is free to view.

Partick Farmers Market 

Partick Farmers Market will set up shop at Mansfield Park once again this weekend as they offer a wide variety of fresh produce.

Whether its fresh fruit and veg or the free samples you’re interested in it is not to be missed.

On top of the food the market has a family atmosphere with traditional Scottish music and face-painting for the kids.

The popup market will be open this Saturday from 10am and run until 2pm.
